X Plus
A userscript for X that adds in-place post translation,
video / GIF / photo download and a set of interface clean-ups — all
configurable from one settings panel that follows X's light / dim / lights-out
theme.
Not affiliated with X Corp. / Twitter.
Install
- Install a userscript manager — Tampermonkey,
Violentmonkey or

Open the settings from the X Plus entry in X's left menu or from the
userscript manager's menu command.
Features
Translation
Same engine as x-translator:
- Translate control in the header of every post, reply and quoted post
- X Articles: the Translate button in the article header (next to Grok) translates it paragraph by paragraph (title, lists and captions included) — links, line breaks and bold headings survive; shown under each paragraph or in its place
- Modes — on button click, or automatic as soon as a post is visible
(optionally only for selected accounts)
- Display — replace the text in place (default), or a separate panel with Show
original, peek original on hover or a split original + translation view
- Providers — Google (no key), DeepL, Microsoft, OpenAI-compatible, Yandex,
LibreTranslate
- Per-account blocklist, source-language allow / block lists, skip posts that
X already auto-translated, entries in the post's ⋮ menu
- Translation errors (“Translation failed. Try again.”) are hidden by default — a switch
brings them back
- Link- and emoji-aware: URLs and hashtags survive translation intact
- Local cache with TTL, usage meter and soft size budget
- Button in the post's action bar and (optionally) over each video / photo
- Videos, GIFs and photos; quoted posts included
- Video quality: best, up to 1080 / 720 / 480p, smallest, or ask every time
(picker lists every rendition with its bitrate)
- Photos in original or large quality; several files → ask or download all
- File name template:

- Progress toast; works without a login via X's public syndication endpoint
and falls back to your session for posts it does not return
- Optional larger photos while browsing the timeline
- Photo gallery (opt-in): a click on a post photo opens a fast full-screen gallery instead of X's photo page — no replies or timeline are loaded; all photos of the post with thumbnails,
← / →, swipe, zoom, download and open-original (Ctrl / Cmd / Shift-click still opens X's viewer)

Shorts mode
Browse the feed one post at a time, like YouTube Shorts (opt-in).
- The mouse wheel or
↑ / ↓ (also J / K) jumps to the previous / next post and centres it (Space goes forward, Shift + Space back)
- Automatic translation (Translation → automatic mode) can be limited to the current post — it starts after the post has stayed in the middle for a moment, so posts you scroll past cost no API requests; the next post can be translated in advance (one request, nothing is shown until you get to it) so the swap is instant (on by default; the Translate button still works everywhere)
- Videos play only in the current post: the ones in the neighbouring posts stay paused, and a video is paused when you move away from its post (it plays again when you come back)
- Round ↑ / ↓ buttons beside the current post step to the previous / next post with the mouse
- Posts joined by a thread line (a reply under its post, a self-thread) count as one post: they are highlighted, centred and stepped over together
- The current post grows a little, the posts around it are blurred; size, blur, the opacity of the previous / next post and transition speed are adjustable
- Auto-scroll (opt-in): moves to the next post by itself after a set time (1–60 s); a video longer than that keeps its post until it ends, and the countdown waits while the pointer is on the arrow buttons. Progress is a ring around the “next” button, or a bar over the top of the post when the buttons are hidden — the indicator can be switched in settings; the play / pause button sits under the arrows, and a key (
P by default, changeable in settings) pauses and resumes it — next to the bar a small chip shows the key
- Turn it on in settings (Shorts tab) or with the switch next to the
Ctrl + M reminder at the bottom left
- Works in feeds (Home, profiles, search, lists), not on a post page; a post taller than the screen scrolls normally until its edge is reached
Interface
Toggle-based clean-up rules: promoted posts, view counts, verified badges,
Grok buttons, the post box and feed tabs, the right column (search, Premium
offer, trends, Who to follow, footer links), left-menu entries (logo, Explore,
Notifications, Chat, Calls, Grok, History, Creator Studio, Premium, Post button,
account menu …) and the floating Grok / Chat panels.
Hover a setting to preview it: the dimming and blur fade out
and the affected element on the page behind it is outlined (shown
if it is currently hidden).
A separate Post section styles a single post and its parts: posts as cards (outline,
filled or shadow, adjustable corner radius), space between posts, inner padding,
no dividers, text size, avatar shape (circle, rounded or square) and hiding of
avatars, quoted posts, images, videos, link previews, articles, the “Source language” notice, @handles, the action bar, view counts, verified badges and the Grok button.
Settings
- Open / close them with Ctrl + M (a faint reminder sits in the bottom left corner;
switch it off in General), the left-menu entry or the userscript manager menu
- Tabs: General · Translation (incl. provider) · Cache · Media · Interface ·
Backup · About; edits are drafted and applied on Save
- UI languages: English, Русский, 中文, Español, Português, Deutsch, Français,
日本語 (or automatic)
- Notifications: on / off, corner, display time
- Backup: export / import all settings as JSON, reset to defaults
Limitations
- Article translation keeps links, line breaks and bold / italic lines; bold or italic words inside a sentence are rendered as plain text in the translation.
- Only MP4 renditions can be saved. Videos that X publishes as an HLS
stream only are reported as not downloadable.
- The GraphQL fallback for restricted posts depends on X's internal API and may
break when X changes it; the primary (syndication) path does not.
- X changes its markup often. If a button, hiding rule or placement stops
working, the selectors to adjust are listed in
docs/DEVELOPMENT.md.
- Translation requests go to the provider you pick (Google by default) from
your browser. API keys stay in your userscript storage — they are included in
the JSON export, keep that file private.
